As an anglophone Canadian, I always feel a bit of unrest at this motto. Canada has a rich and complicated history and I LOVE having two national languages. Each time I visit Montreal I fall in love with the culture (and gain 10 lb eating such amazing cheese and pastry) and am very grateful to have this diversity in my homeland. At the same time, this motto makes me wonder are French Canadians romanticizing the time before the English? The danger in romanticizing the past is that it can keep people from moving forward. Anyway, thank you for stirring all these thoughts in me with your work. It is very rousing, well done! v
